One in nine households struggles to get food on the table, but can you tell who’s in need?

This holiday season, students from the Loyalist College Post-Graduate Public Relations and Event Management program are gearing up to combat hunger, poverty, and homelessness in the local community by raising money for United Way of Prince Edward-Hastings.

About

On Thursday, November 15, 2018, Loyalist College staff, faculty, and students are invited to have fun and play to win at the Gear Up 4 United Way fundraiser. From 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., gear up for games, prizes and raffles in the cafeteria and pop-up thrift shop in room 1n1 at Loyalist College.

Take a break with games

Bring your toonies! Compete and have fun with your friends among life-sized games like connect four, plinko, and plunger toss (yikes!). Collect your raffle tickets to win great prizes such as new sportswear and equipment, gift certificates, and “Gear for Life” themed raffle baskets valued at $500+.

Be sure to follow Loyalist PR on Twitter and Instagram and share your experience with the hashtag #GearUp4UnitedWay. One winner will be chosen every hour to win cool prizes!

Budget-friendly Christmas shopping

You can also support United Way by completing your Christmas shopping at the pop-up thrift shop. Fill a bag of new and gently used clothing and items for only $5 or purchase single items for $2.

Give some lovin’s

When you’re done playing games and Christmas shopping, visit the piano on the cafeteria stage and sign it with your positive messages. This piano will be placed at the Belleville farmer’s market. Celebrating the message of United Way’s local love campaign, this public space will be reminded of the ways we support our community.

Your participation helps the community

Over the past 13 years, Loyalist PR students have raised more than $82,000. Money raised from the games, pop-up thrift store and donations will go right back into the local Quinte West community to support your friends, family, and neighbours.

If you’re unable to make the event on November 15, consider an online donation. With something for everyone, we hope to see you at Gear up 4 United Way!
