Over the last few weeks, I have had the luxury of connecting with Devon Taylor, a humble and intelligent mentor, to help guide me in my professional career. We have been emailing each other and getting to know more about our past education and professional experiences. Profiling her for an upcoming assignment for the PR and Event Management program, I wanted to meet Devon in person and get the chance to connect outside of the digital space.
While sitting at a small table in a Tim Horton’s just a few meters away from the Military Family Resource Centre in Trenton, Devon and I got to meet each other for the first time. Sipping on a warm French Vanilla, we quickly bonded over food, our dogs, and our shared understanding of the military experience.
Devon Taylor
Devon Taylor is the Communications and Development Coordinator at the Trenton Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC) and is responsible for leading all communications collateral including digital media, news outreach and events.
Since joining the MFRC in 2014, Devon developed and implemented the first communications and marketing plan. Examples include creating a progressive user-friendly website, garnering media exposure and awareness within the community, and executing successful events like the Invisible Ribbon Gala to raise money for MFRC programs that resonate with the military community.
Although the industry is continuously changing, Devon and her team find creative ways to be innovated in a small city to ensure their messaging, fundraising initiatives, and events are well received by locals.
Prior to her position at the MFRC, Devon worked at Instigator Communications, a PR agency in Toronto. Creating and implementing strategic communication campaigns, Devon managed multiple high-profile clients such as Stiegl and Erdinger.
With the personal goal of serving the community and becoming the face of the Trenton MFRC, Devon stays in touch with what’s going on in the community by volunteering her time at the Belleville Satellite Rotary Club where she shares her expertise, skills and connects with other leaders.
Born in Port Perry, Ontario, Devon graduated the University of Ottawa with a double major in Communications and Political Science. In 2012, Devon graduated the Post-Graduate Public Relations and Event Management program at Loyalist College with Dean’s List recognition.
